This week I continued working on getting my prototype in shape and my assets together before filming my final version of my stop motion. By next week I will have everything in order, so this week was spent working toward this goal.
I complied all the pictures from my “perfection” collage into a pdf which I am getting printed at FedEx on coated paper so it is shiny and matches the other cutouts in my animation. I am borrowing lighting from a friend who is into photography, and will also be assisting me the weekend I set up camp and put the whole thing together.
The most important task I did this week was make my final collage. I need this collage to sum up who I am as an artist. I used “kid art” elements, “sketchbook” elements, and magazine elements, which was tricky because they are not inherently cohesive. I was able to make it work by making 5 different collages which animate into one another, rather than having one collage which includes all the elements. I originally planned on doing the latter, but after looking for inspiration on the internet, I realized that if my collage is too overwhelmed with elements it will not translate a message because it will be too busy.
I am very happy with how these 5 collages turned out. I was worried about being able to represent myself using these materials, but I was able to accomplish what I wanted with the materials by splitting the collage up into 5.
Now I will be working long hours to put everything together in after effects before next Wednesday. I need to edit the timing of the film as well as add in sound effects and music to tie everything together.
I am hoping the whole film will be 1:30 mins to 2 mins. I am excited to see it all put together and start working on actually taking pictures of these elements.
