This week my goal was to work on the ending on my low fidelity prototype that I finished last week. Originally I planned to take the actual yoga photos and put them into the prototype in order to make the ending more polished. However, I started thinking about the photos and realized they were not something I wanted in my project. I thought about the actual purpose of my project, which is making art without fear of perfection, and didn’t see how those photos fit into this message. I talked this through with my mom and refined my idea to focus on ART. We found old drawing I had done as a kid as well as my sketch books from high school and college. Instead of yoga photos, I am going to include these old drawings.
The drawings overall represent that I am an artist at my core, as I have been drawing my whole life. As a kid and while randomly doodling over the last few years, I was not thinking about making this art perfect, I was making art for the sake of releasing creative energy. I want to come back to this purpose in my life now, which is why I am making this project. Therefore, I am going to showcase these old drawings, and then make them into a collage which represents who I AM as an artist, not who I SHOULD be.
I am so grateful that I can to this conclusion, because it ignited my passion for this project and pivoted my mental state about working on it. The yoga pictures felt daunting, and at first I didn’t know why. But now that my film is focused back on ART and not on PERFORMANCE, I feel so excited to produce something that represents ME as an ARTIST.
My storyboard has been updated many times over the past semester. I’m sure there will be tweaks here and there but overall I have honed in on my story and can officially start really producing the film, instead of worrying about what it SHOULD be about.
I started mocking up the new ending in after effects, using pictures of the assets I gather this weekend. The final film will use the actual assets, but it is easier to play around with them digitally. I created colorful collages as the background images for displaying the old art.
I still need to make the final collage scene which will use the art assets as well as other magazine assets. Again, this collage represents me as an artist, so in order to make it I need to do a little more reflection.
I also started refining the beginning of the video, making the ripping and sewing much more realistic.
In 2 weeks my goal is to have the “prototype” video made on after effects 100% done with sound design and everything. Once I have this, I can use it as a guide to move the physical assets and take pictures of them. The stop motion process is very time consuming and difficult, so having this guide will make it much easier as I am not going in blind, I actually know what I need to get pictures of.
I feel like I went through the pit of despair this last week, not knowing if I even wanted to work on this project anymore. But now I feel reinvigorated and ready to make this project what I want it to be.
This week I also got all of my backups and version control in check. I am saving everything on a hard drive as well as on a google drive, categorized by version number.
